Our Projects
More about Start Smart
$tart $mart @ High Schools
We work with Ontario high schools to integrate financial literacy content into the classroom through seminars and workshops led by our members and industry professionals. $tart $mart teaches students to manage and save their money by decreasing expenditures, set short and long-term financial goals, establish and follow a budget and open a bank account.
$tart $mart @ RU
At a post-secondary stage, we organize and run seminars on topics such as debt management and budgeting including banking professionals who share their expertise and answer questions from the students. Our seminars have a special focus on teaching students with Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) loans. @ RU strives to help students get out of debt sooner and save money to financially support themselves upon graduation from university.
Covenant House
Outside educational institutions, $tart $mart has partnered with Covenant House to provide homeless youth with the financial knowledge and success skills to not only find meaningful employment, but to manage their finances and launch their own entrepreneurial venture.
Pathways
$tart $mart works with Pathways to Education; a North American community organization that runs programs for at-risk youth. Our program has been integrated into the Pathways curriculum teaching personal finances, OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program), and introducing scholarships and government grants.
