Biographical Sketch
Dr. James Tiessen teaches and does research related to international management. His publications on a range of topics – including entrepreneurship, joint ventures, SME exporting, and website localization – are thematically linked by a focus on Japan. Tiessen taught at McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business until fall 2007. While at McMaster he served as Director, MBA Programs, as well as on several School and University committees. He has been President and Director of the Japan Studies Association of Canada and actively involved in the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada. Tiessen earned his PhD at the Schulich School of Business, York University. His Masters and undergraduate degrees, both in Agricultural Economics, are from Guelph and Alberta, respectively.
Research
Dr. Tiessen does research related to international management. His publications on a range of topics–including entrepreneurship, joint ventures, SME exporting, and website localization are thematically linked by a focus on Japan. This focus is due to his years spent there, and later, his experience working for a Japanese organization in Canada. Tiessen is now doing comparative work on Japanese healthcare.
