Biographical Sketch

Professor Schlanger is currently the Director of Student Achievement for the Ted Rogers School of Business Management and as such his availability to teach in entrepreneurship has been limited. However, in the Fall 2008 semester, he revamped and taught BUS100: Strategies for Success, a compulsory first semester course focusing on successful transitioning to post-secondary education.

A tenured member of the business faculty since 1984, David has taught and designed courses in entrepreneurship, strategic management, managerial economics and quantitative methods. He has served as Director of the Ryerson Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Research, Director for the Ryerson Innovation Centre, Co-ordinator of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Area, Co-ordinator of the Quantitative Methods Area, Program Director for the Management and Enterprise Development Option, and Assistant Chair for the School of Business Management.

David hosted and wrote 24 half hour episodes of the radio series “Entrepreneurship: New Venture Start-up” for Open College and CJRT-FM. He hosted and was script advisor to the TVO television series entitled “Writing a Small Business Plan”.

Most recently, during an extended three-year leave of absence, David consulted in the asset-based lending industry to find, assess and assist companies in need of turnaround strategies. He also participated in the development and delivery of an innovative and very successful teaching tool for employees to learn business financials as part of an open-book management philosophy.

In the late 90’s, as Co-ordinator of the then titled Entrepreneurship and Innovation Area, Professor Schlanger spearheaded the creation of a minor in entrepreneurship. During the past year he has been instrumental in the most recent revision of the entrepreneurship major as the chair of the curriculum sub-committee for the department.
